Mass Effect 3 Slammed By Metacritic User Reviews

Bioware’s space science fiction RPG Mass Effect 3 is released today and has caused a bizarre dichotomy in review scores between users and games journalists.

Popular review website Metacritic currently scores the PC version of ME3 a pathetic 2.2/10 from users, but a majestic 9.3/10 from journos.

One user review states “(Mass Effect 3) is made for drooling trash with no standards, and Bioware confirmed them as their target audience.”
Another writes ”As someone who really enjoyed the other games in the series, this is a huge let down. From the dumbed down story, terrible animation and graphic issues, and the gaping plot holes this game is just BAD. Truly disappointing.”

In fact, there are 256 negative user reviews compared to just 58 positive.

Indeed, the majority of complaints from users appear to focus on ME3 being a simplified game compared to the previous titles in the series.

Personally, I haven’t had an opportunity to try out ME3, so I can’t comment on it’s quality. What do you think of it?

  1. I played mass effect 1 week before ME3, and re-played ME2 two days before ME3 came out (lost saves after switching to windows 7) i was really disappointed in simplicity of the game, side missions just felt like quickly made DLC’s from ME2, and choices you make do no matter 90% of the time, literally, there are crucial ones that can kill characters, but most are out of your control, like Mordin thing, i swear i tried to restart that mission like 3 times just to check all the paragon and renegade mouse clicks to see if i can make difference, but nope. right now on about 40%, really feel like ME2 was way better, this what happens when they only take 1 year to make a game, it’s barebones simple.

  2. As stated above really; this seems to be par for the course with new game releases these days – the public grumplestiltskins deliver Hulk sized score smashes on Metacritic in an attempt to derail the success of certain companies and products.

    There was once a time when the internet was used for th power of good, porn and such but now has been taken over by crazy people riding gigantic egos on a wave of self righteousness. For further evidence read this;

    and then cry into your hanky at how holier than thou and worthy the world has become.

    Hello, by the way, this rant is like a cameo appearance while I wait for my love of gaming to return (which should occur at about 17.30 tomorrow when I’ve downloaded ‘Journey’)

  3. Such a massive variance between critic and user scores.. heh.

    I suspect the slew of low user scores has rather a lot to do with people being unhappy with the Day 1 DLC :/

  4. Blame 4chan, they have a pet peeve against Bioware and will always slaughter their games in meTacritic
